Is there such thing as beauty sleep? Does your workout routine affect your strands? Can sleep deprivation cause hair loss? In this week’s blog post, Fabio reveals the healthy habits in our everyday life that have a huge impact on your hair and its health.

Rinse your hair with cold water

Finishing every shower with an ice cold rinse doesn’t seem that compelling. But the benefits are great. By finishing your shower with a cold rinse, you close the pores, stimulate your blood circulation and reset the skin and scalp. Also, this will make your color last longer!

Meditate on a daily basis

Meditation is a natural medication proven to have relaxing effects on our bodies, and the scalp and hair are no exception. Excessive stress can lead to hair loss, dandruff and itchy and oily scalp. A daily practice of meditation can help to reset your stress levels.

Make sure to get enough sleep

Speaking of stress: sleep deprivation is a form of stress and by now we know that stress may have great effect on hair loss. As we are sleeping, the skin, scalp and hair regain their strength again. In other words – sleep allows all parts of our bodies to function better.

Exercise on a regular basis

When we exercise we also sweat. Through sweat, toxins and other waste substances get rinsed out from the skin’s pores, giving us fresh and glowy skin. Likewise, when we sweat from our scalp, it helps to unclog the hair follicles, which gives room for new hair to grow. However, excessive exercise can have the opposite effect as it’s a way of stressing your body.

Control your diet

In a previous blog post, we have talked about 10 nutrients that are beneficial for your hair. Your hair will benefit significantly from a balanced diet. However, if you find it difficult to cover all vitamins needed for optimal nutrition, adding Nutrafol, a 100% drug free dietary supplement, to your daily routine could make a huge difference. Get yours in the salon today!

Massage your body (and scalp!)

A body or foot massage increases blood circulation in our bodies. This allows the hair follicles to receive all of the oxygen, nutrients and minerals that they need to grow. When it comes to scalp massage, it’s important to be gentle. Too much or a too aggressive scalp massage stimulates the sebaceous glands and as a result, more sebum is produced. Instead, aim for gentle movements clockwise and counterclockwise – and no nails!
