No backcombing, no weaving, just blowdrying. At Fabio Scalia Salons, the team always keeps its finger on the pulse of current trends and new techniques. Colorists often performing popular techniques of foil, balayage and all over, but today we are discussing a new and trending technique; highlighting the hair with only a board and a blow dryer. In today's blog post, Soho colorist Claudia DeCicco guides us through the process of getting the color you’ve always dreamt of. “The first step is to section the hair into five quadrants. From there I take sections, slice them and put the blow dryer to the strands to remove baby hairs. To make it easier, I clip the tiny hairs down and once my section is ready, I hold a paddle underneath it with the foil and simply brush on the color. I let the color process until the hair has lifted to the desired look and then simply rinse. Depending on the client’s hair, I would add a gloss and root smudge if necessary.” “Most people think that foils leave a brighter but also sometimes ‘stripy’ result and that’s why a lot of people are preferring balayage because they want a more sunkissed and natural looking outcome. However, with this new technique, you get the lift and brightness. In other words, you don’t have to choose between being bright enough and natural looking. In addition, it’s great if you want a long lasting result that looks amazing in between your visits to the salon.” – Claudia DeCicco Schedule your appointment with us today in Soho Schedule your appointment with us today in Brooklyn Heights Fabio Scalia is an upscale hair salon in SoHo and Brooklyn Heights, New York. Morning after morning they transform our frizzy, wet strands into glamourous manes. In previous blog posts we’ve talked about the importance of using the right products for your hair but let’s not forget about the blow dryers. This week we discuss the importance of investing in a really good one. Fabio, why is using a good blow dryer important? –If you don’t have a good blow dryer, you can’t expect to have a good result. If you want a professional result you need a professional tool – simple as that. A good blow dryer should have the right power, speed and heat control. What could be the effect of using one of low quality? – The wrong type of blow dryer in combination with poor technique can be extremely damaging to your hair. If the blow dryer is too hot, it can cause severe damage to your hair and also make your color fade faster. On the other hand, if it’s not hot enough or too slow, you won’t get the smooth result you wish for. Remember to always hold the dryer at least one inch away from the hair on the brush. That will not only give you the smoothest hair, but also make your blowout last longer. In addition, (and most importantly) it will cause less damage to the strands. Also, if you don’t have a nozzle, it’s going to be really hard to get a smooth and professional result. How important is the heat? – The heat of the blow dryer is very important and should be adapted to your specific hair type. If you have full and curly hair, you want to remove water with heat and fast speed. But if your hair is finer it’s good to slow down the process, with a lower heat, so you have enough time to build up the volume and get the results you wish for. Your blow dryer should also have a button for cold air. When blow drying hair, the warm air shapes the look and the cold hair seals it. Invest in a good blow dryer for the long haul. A cheap one will not only be a waste of money but will also cause unnecessary damage to your hair, and we definitely wouldn’t want that to happen! Ever wonder how celebrities and movie stars all seem to have thick, voluminous, gorgeous hair? And how do they go from a chic bob one day to long, luxurious locks the next? Even good genes can’t do that. Chances are most of the celebs with the fabulous locks are wearing extensions. Fabio Scalia Salon is now proud to offer Great Lengths Hair Extensions, so that anyone can have a little help in achieving some of the looks that we admire. With hair sourced from the temples of India, Great Lengths is the industries top rated leader in extensions. They are the most luxurious extensions on the market, made from ethically sourced, fully traceable non-chemically treated human hair. Fabio Scalia Salon stylist, Luis Miller, has been working with Great Lengths extensions for years and he feels that the results are incomparable. According to Luis, the patented Great Lengths keratin bond is the same structure as our own hair, which allows each extension to fuse with natural hair on a molecular level, without the risk of damage. Luis also states that the bond structure of the extensions expand and contract the same way that our own hair does when it goes from wet to dry! This makes the extensions look and feel really natural. Luis recommends removal every 4 to 6 months, depending upon the type of application performed (i.e. lengthening, more volume), the state/condition of the natural hair, and lifestyle. Great Lengths extensions can be used to achieve length, volume or both.
